In my abstract pieces, I experiment with composition and collage, using a primary and bright color palette. Some of these works begin as torn paper collages, that I then re-imagine as lager scale pieces in acrylic or watercolor.
I am interested in the balance of shapes and colors, grids and patterns, while creating a rigid yet fluid composition.
In the “I am Woman” series, I am inspired by the vintage images of women originally visible within the pages of erotic magazines for men. By rendering them as regal paintings of women, I update them and adjust the “gaze” creating an image of empowerment and representation of beauty.
