Tamez’s work has always reflected concepts and aspects of “the in between”. Since coming out as Queer in Texas, and as a Mexican-American, they have never identified as female or male, Mexican or American, it makes sense that their creative direction would have that duality, the in-between, hybrid, unclassified perspective. “I did this series of faces and abstractions at the start of the Covid shut down. I was very much in the thick of trying to wrap my head around what it all meant to be losing a generation of people. Our humanity is so strong and yet so vulnerable. A mixture of alchemy within the human body.”
